Graduate Programs
Taking Graduate Programs
To earn the highest pay scales in the present world, it pays to go back to college and complete graduate programs and earn a masters or PhD. With a sharp decline in jobs throughout the United States, those holding graduate programs degrees usually receive priority in finding high paying jobs. In fact, in 2007 there are a number of fields that boast hiring increases of up to 20%. The trick to finding high paying jobs relies heavily on the major you hold. Currently, accounting, business management, computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering are the best graduate programs degrees to hold. If you complete graduate programs in these fields, your chances of receiving high paying job offers are 15 to 20% higher.
According to the U.S. Government, the best masters and doctorate degrees to hold right now are an MBA (Master In Business Administration), Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. One drawback to graduate programs in these fields is that the jobs may be hard to find in some areas. Southern U.S. states are projected to be increasing jobs in these areas by 25%. Western states project a 23% increase.
In the Northeast, the jobs will only increase by 17%, and in the Midwest the job growth is only at 10%. It is going to be worthwhile for many to move south or west in order to find the best jobs after completing graduate programs in those fields. For some, it makes more sense to move before starting any graduate programs because internships are the best form of education in the final years of the graduate programs.
Before entering into any graduate programs, take a look at areas where you feel you can happily live. Those from the north will find it to be much warmer and more humid in southern states and that can be troublesome as the body adapts to the climate change. The cost of living is also different. In the south, you will use far more power with air conditioning in the summer months than with heat in the winter. In the north, winter heating is a must. These are all issues to think about when looking at graduate programs.
